How I Got Started
I’ve been training for sports all my life but my fascination with the fitness side of tennis started back in 1993, when I got the opportunity to train with arguably one of the fittest players ever to grace this sport. You might know his name Bjorn Borg. There I was, a young tennis pro, thinking I was pretty cool, getting a chance to hit with my idol. What was going through my head you ask? Of course I was honored, but at the same time, I thought I’d be able to hang with him. He was past his prime, playing on the Seniors Tour. I thought for sure he would tire out.
Suffice it to say, he proceeded to wipe me off the court- I was blown away by his level of fitness and my lack thereof. By the end, I was the one who ran out of gas. Bjorn, well, he could have kept going and going and going. He was like the energizer bunny in a tennis outfit!
Over the course of the time I spent with Bjorn, I had the opportunity to pick his brain as to some of his training methods. It was truly enlightening. Though he kept running me ragged throughout our sessions on court, to this day, my time spent with him produced some the greatest and most inspirational moments of my life.
Thus I began my education in the school of strength and conditioning for tennis. What was education has become a passion. Over the 18 years I have been coaching and training tennis players, Ive often been asked, “What are some exercises I can do for tennis?” Well, I listened to the clients and have answered their inquiries. This brings me to where I am today and the creation of Fit Tennis Player!
